The Touristic Organisation of Ulcinj, GWA partner, organised an Open Space Technology (OST), following the GWA participatory methodology aimed at engaging local communities and stakeholders in discussing and finding solutions around the development of adventure and water tourism in Mntenegro. The event was hosted at the premises of the Municpality of Ulcinj, in Djerdj Kastrioti Skenderberg Bulevard. The event saw the participation of the local tour operators, non governmental bodies and students as well as local associations.
The goal of the event was to gather informaiton and input from relevant social actors, such as representatives of travel agencies, hoteliers, local institutions, non-governmental organizations and interested citizens, including students, on what is needed to do in order for Ulcinj to start developing adventure tourism more seriously. The collected information will be used to design development policies and promotional strategies of Touristic Organisation Ulcinj.
The development of adventure tourism in the municipality of Ulcinj can create new jobs and stimulate economic growth. This type of tourism requires the services of local guides, instructors, accommodation facilities, restaurants and equipment stores, which would create new business opportunities for the local population. In addition, adventure tourism can attract visitors throughout the year, instead of only during the seasonal period, which would increase revenues and reduce seasonal dependence. The support of local authorities and the implementation of sustainable practices in tourism, such as the protection of nature and the preservation of cultural heritage, are of key importance for the long-term development of adventure tourism.
